2016 Bond – VOTE MAY 3rd

As we look to the future of Comstock Public Schools, the Board of Education is asking you to consider a bond proposal on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 to address identified improvements across the district. Comstock Public Schools has trimmed the operating budget over the past several years. Building improvements have been deferred and technology purchases delayed.

NO TAX RATE INCREASE

The millage rate would remain the same as the current rate for homeowners.

If approved, this bond proposal would generate $40,130,000. These dollars would be spent in three phases over the course of nine years to provide for improvements and preservation of our schools. By issuing the bonds in three series, the overall interest costs are less than if the bonds were issued all at one time.

 Phase One
 $8,000,000
 Phase Two  $15,975,000
 Phase Three   $16,155,000
 Total   $40,130,000

THIS BOND PROPOSAL FOCUSES ON:

  1. SAFETY AND SECURITY
    • Secure entryways at all school buildings to monitor access to our students and classrooms
    • Improve traffic flow at all school buildings
    • Additional site lighting at all school buildings

  2. ENHANCING THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
    • Plumbing, mechanical and electrical upgrades throughout the District where needed
    • Replacement of heating and cooling systems throughout the District as needed
    • Roofing replacements throughout the District as needed
    • Updated finishes (flooring, casework and ceiling tiles) throughout the District as necessary
    • Restrooms and locker rooms renovations throughout the District

  3. EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY
    • Funding for the next nine years for new computers and tablets for students, classrooms and staff as needed
    • Upgrades to network infrastructure
    • Increased student accessibility to wireless network

School bonds can only be utilized to fund capital improvement projects, new construction, technology and transportation needs. Bonds cannot be utilized to fund operational and maintenance costs like salaries, supplies, utilities, insurance and other daily costs.

IN SUMMARY
Comstock strives to be a district built on fiscal responsibility, demonstrating prudent management of public funds, and the funds generated by this proposal would be no different. Comstock Public Schools values the community and respects their financial support.
