Martin Johnson

Rich BaileyMartin Johnson

Class of 1971

Martin Johnson asked me to write an introductory statement and I am happy to do so and am so happy he is being recognized for the Hall of Fame. Comstock entered the Wolverine Conference in 1966 and found the level of high school football had been elevated very quickly. In 1968 a young sophomore was pulled up to the varsity and started gaining yardage at an amazing pace. Martin Johnson, the sophomore, started to excite the fans and community with his speed, power and breakaway ability. Over the next 3 seasons, he rushed for 3,022 yards, scoring 30 touchdowns and earning All-State, All-Area, and All-League honors. Marty helped the Colts to compete for the championships and the Colts were runner-up his senior year. Martin Johnson has always been a class act as a Colt on and off the court, field, and the track. He was a supportive teammate and a positive influence in the Community to all of the young athletes. In the annals of Colt running backs, Marty Johnson is at the very top of the list.
