An 81 hour course meeting all the requirements of the State of Michigan Certified Nurse Aide Training. The class is a combination of classroom, laboratory and clinical training. The course content of state curricula includes long-ter m care facilities, physical and emotional needs of residents, resident rights, communication skills, death and dying, special needs of residents, vital signs, infection control principles and isolation techniques, observation, medical terminology, body mechanics, transfers, walkers, canes, positioning in bed, nutrition, intake and output, elimination needs, skin care, foot care, dressing, bathing, bed making, oral care, and first aid, The course includes a segment on resume review and job skills.

Location: 3010 Gull Road (Administration Building)
When: Monthly classes 8:00-2:30 pm, M-F for 2 weeks then 3 days of training in a  Nursing Home
Program Fees: $600.00, $300.00 upon registration
Other Costs: Uniforms, watch with seconds, and shoes for the clinical portion of the class

Requirements:
1. Reading at 9th grade level and math skills at 6th grade level
2. A negative TB test or chest x-ray (within past year)
3. Criminal background check

Upon successful completion of the course, a student is eligible to take the state certification exam. Presently testing fees are $176.50. Tuition and testing fees are reimbursable from the State of Michigan if a student obtains employment as a nurse aide in a nursing home within 12 months of completing the training program. If an individual ' s income qualifies he/she may apply thru Michigan Works to take the class.

A CNA (Certified Nurse Aide) can work in a variety of settings including: skilled care facilities (nursing homes), assisted living, homecare and hospitals (PCA)
