The Gumball Machine Challenge

Gumball Machines

We are pleased to announce that Comstock has won the Gumball Machine Challenge at the 2016 Bay Area Maker Faire!

Comstock has been leading the way in incorporating the exciting world of 3D printing into the curriculum since 2013. Due to the efforts of our staff and students, we have obtained a reputation as a leader among the 3D printing community, and we were invited to be one of only 4 schools nationwide to take part in a unique student 3D design competition.

The design competition was hosted by the very popular 3D printer company Ultimaker, and the winner was determined by the attendees of the 2016 San Francisco Bay Area Maker Faire May 21-22, who voted by purchasing our 3D printed toys with their own money.

Our kids designed 3D printed items which were put inside 2 inch gumball machine capsules. Our students' designs were then loaded into one of the 4 gumball machines, and Maker Faire attendees bought our prizes for 50 cents a piece.

When the dust settled, and the Maker Faire came to an end, Comstock's contributions to the challenge had outsold the three other schools, leaving us as the Gumball Machine Challenge winners!! As winners of this competition, Comstock takes home all of the money collected in our gumball machine, AND
 a new Ultimaker 3D printer!
