December is always a busy time of year, and at NEMS it is no different. On top of all the other hustle and bustle, the Social Studies Department gears up to hold its annual Geography Bee competition.
This year's classroom round tested the knowledge of all 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders.
Going into the finals on December 21th were the following students:
5th grade - Ximena Villegas
6th grade - Kaia Laarman, Aaron Tate, Zachary Liby
7th grade - Xandra Mielke, Kayla Gregg
8th grade - Sam Babb, Alexandra Boven, Desiree Arrey
Competition on that Wednesday was intense, with all students coming prepared to answer correctly. It came down to the final three contestants who finished in the following order:
Ximena Villegas 1st Place
Xandra Mielke 2nd Place
Aaron Tate 3rd Place
Ximena's next step will be to take the State Qualifying portion of the Bee after the Winter Break.
