2020-21 Preparations

Now, more than ever, families deserve the autonomy to choose the learning path that best meets the needs of their student. That's why Comstock is developing our Return-to-School plan around family choice. While our ability to provide in-person instruction this fall will ultimately be determined by the Executive Order 2020-142 and the Michigan Safe Schools Roadmap – which dictates under what conditions students can return to class – we are preparing a variety of learning options so you can select the plan that’s right for your family, while ensuring your child continues to receive a high quality education.

Comstock Public Schools (CPS) will gradually and safely reopen schools and activities for the 2020-21 academic year aligned with our District Goals and Strategic Plan according to the Governor’s Directives.  Our goal is for our buildings to be “COVID-Free” environments because we want our students, families, and staff to feel as comfortable as possible returning.  Until the Board of Education approves a plan on August 10, 2020, this plan is meant to be a draft for discussion and feedback. This feedback will be gathered through surveys, virtual meetings, and reviews of this document by many stakeholders.

Ultimately, we will follow the guidance of the Return to School Roadmap and our local health department.  During July and August, we are creating our COVID-19 Preparedness and Response Plan according to Executive Order 2020-142 through the following working groups:

Virtual meetings with our Board of Education:

  •  Virtual meetings with Kalamazoo RESA Superintendents
  •  Virtual meetings with Administration
  •  Virtual meetings with Union Representatives
  •  Virtual meetings with Building staff
  •  Student, parent, and staff surveys
  •  Shared Google Documents to receive feedback

When we do get back into school buildings, all students and staff will be required to provide their own face mask, and wear it according to the Michigan Safe Start Plan and as directed by the Comstock Public Schools District. Students or staff who forget to bring their mask to school will be issued one in the front office of their school building.

We sincerely appreciate the patience and grace you have extended us as we work through these unprecedented times. If you have comments or questions, please contact our superintendent through our web site, via email at ThoenesJ@comstockps.org, or by phone at 269-250-8907.
