10-9 - Comstock 1 - South Haven 7

We really went out with a fight for our first district game. Usually we have a slow start, but that wasn't the case in this match. We were energized right out of the gate--setting up plays in all areas of the field, playing the ball to feet, and containing their offensive line. Everybody was firing on all cylinders and truly left everything on the field. Big shout outs go to our defensive line who had over 20 offside calls which frustrated South Haven's strikers and made them have to be slower with the ball, giving us time to force errors and capitalize. When the ball did get passed out defense, Isaiah Andrews had several incredible saves and got lots of compliments from our team, their team, and all the fans watching.

10-7 - Comstock 4 - Bronson 5

This was definitely a hard loss to swallow. We beat this team 9-1 earlier this season and I think we underestimated them going into tonight. They were a completely different team tonight. We played well, but they got two early goals before we started taking them seriously. We had a 4-2 lead at one point but we just couldn't hang on to it. It's tough to end the season like this, but I'm proud of the game we played tonight.

10-3 - Comstock 11 - Quincy 7

We underestimated this team at the beginning and in the first 10 minutes we were down 0-3, but we shook the dust off and kept our heads up for a mighty comeback. Our defense struggled this game, but managed to keep it together when it mattered. Our offensive on the other hand was on fire. We were patient with the ball and creating opportunities by switching the field and being creative with our passes. The was a team win with 4 different players scoring goals (Kohler 7, Baker 2, Schultz 1, Salter 1), lots of assists (1 each for Baker, Schultz, and Salter), and our new goalkeeper had 24 saves. There was something for everyone to feel good about tonight for our last home game of the season.

9-26 - Comstock 3 - Leslie 6

We were evenly matched with this team in terms of skill but they dominated us in physical play. They were much bigger than us and used their size to win balls and power through us. We made lots of errors in the first 20 minutes that were hard to come back from, despite getting he first goal of the night. We had a yellow card that resulted in a PK for them that was completely avoidable and was the turning point for the rest of the game. Of all the reasons we lost this game, none of them was skill. We let the other team get in our head and we didn't want the win as much as they did.

9-25 - Comstock 2 - Hartford 10

This was a much better performance against Hartford this time around. In our first meeting we only had one shot on goal. This time, we were able to put two in the back of their net. Tonight we pulled our usual goalkeeper out of the net so he could get some much-needed field playing time, which allowed us to create a more offensive lineup. Once we put Landon back in goal, we were able to get our footing and run the game the way we are used to which is when we saw the most success.

9-23 - Comstock 1 - Bangor 9

We didn't have the best performance tonight--all the guys had an off day. That said, there were some major improvements from the first time we played Bangor this season. This time, we doubled the number of shots we took and cut the number of shots they had in half. Any other day, that should have resulted in a closer score, but we fell short in other areas where we usually do well like communication and stepping to the ball.

9-18 - Comstock 4 - Bloomingdale 7

I'm proud to say that we played with the same intensity and dedication in this game from the very beginning to the last moment. We had lots of close shots that didn't go in and we definitely gave them a real competition tonight. Over the last three seasons, we have never come this close to beating Bloomingdale. And it wasn't just because of a few star players from our end--everyone was playing at the top of their game and we were using our teammates for all their strengths. This is a loss that feels very much like a win.

9-16 - Comstock 2 - Berrien Springs 7

Like many of our games, we started this one on our heels and they got an easy goal right out of the gate. From that point on though we were a different team. Everyone was connecting lots of passes, communicating, and playing defensively when we were off the ball. We ended the first half down 1-2 and started the second fighting for the win. This game really came down to a bad 15 minutes where we lost our positioning, had some players out who normally don't come out, and let 1 goal turn into lots of goals. Overall, though, this was most of our team's best game this season.

9-11 - Comstock 3 - Cassopolis 4

Our second half was better than our first half in this game, but overall we played very well. Despite having no substitutes because of several injuries, the boys fought hard to the very end. We missed a few easy goals scoring opportunities and let in a few easy goals, which was just enough for the other team to edge us out. Even though this was a loss for us, it was still on of our better games so far this season and we can't wait to meet Cassopolis again.

9-9 - Comstock 0 - Hartford 9

We started this game on our toes, stepping to every ball, looking for our teammates, and catching the other team offside. This was the first game that we've been shut out of all season. We knew it would be a hard game, but managed to keep our heads up until the 6th goal. I'm proud to say we never gave up. But we did have several people in new positions because of injuries, and too many people out of position because they stopped trusting their teammates. In spite of the confusion, we mostly were able to stay marked up defensively.

9-7 - Bloomingdale Tournament - Comstock 1 - Homeschool 6

This was a game we played well against a very good team. A few individual errors resulted in goals that never should have happened, but for the most part, we made them work for their win. I was excited to see the defensive line master the offside trap in this game. We worked on this in practice yesterday and that work paid off with over 20 offside calls in our favor when it was all said and done.

9-7 - Bloomingdale Tournament - Comstock 5 - Our Lady of the Lake 4

We started this game really slow and got down 0-2 against a team we should have easily been ahead of the whole time. We worked hard to make a comeback. Despite not playing our best, we showed tenacity and never gave up.  With 3 minutes left on the clock, Trey Kohler scored the game winning goal and we transitioned to a fully defensive strategy to let the time run out.

9-4 - Comstock 1 - Bangor 9

Despite the score board, this was a pretty good game for us. We made Bangor work hard for every goal and had several good offensive chances of our own.
The game ended with 20 minutes left, but during the second half, we played the hardest we have all season to try and make it all the way to the end.
This was a much better showing against Bangor than last season and I look forward to meeting them again later in the season.

9-3 - Comstock 9 - Bronson 1

We were firing on all cylinders tonight. We were stepping to passes and steals and winning 50/50 balls out of the air. Our defense found the midfield and our midfield found our forwards--over and over again.

There were only a few minutes where we weren't at our best, but we reset quickly. Tonight was extra special because Trey Kohler set a new school record for the number of goals scored in a single game (8). The team worked hard to get Trey the ball and he thanked them by scoring beautifully almost every time.

The night was capped off with an amazing 30 yard free kick from Cayden Schultz which landed in the upper right corner. We had lots of fans in the stands to support us and to see the work we've been putting in and we're glad to give them a big win to watch.

8-24 - Comstock 1 - Bloomingdale 6

We started this game out very quick and dominated the first 20 minutes. We adjusted well to the turf field by stepping to every pass and winning 50/50 balls out of the air which afforded us offensive opportunities. Unfortunately we slowed down dramatically at the end of the second half and gave up a goal before halftime. After halftime looked much worse than the start of the first half. We were playing selfishly and we were getting tired, so a very winnable game quickly became a loss. We did pick ourselves back up in the last 10 minutes of the match and, again, controlled the majority of play and managed to score once (Trey Kohler).

8-22 - Comstock 6 - Quincy 1

Quincy got the first goal on us right after kickoff, but we didn't let it get us down. Each of us has a spotless performance tonight and you could see the team start trusting each other. Players who don't usually pass to each other were finding chances to build combinations and set up they're teammates for shots. Everyone played unselfishly tonight and that made all the difference. By giving away the ball, we started seeing opportunities that didn't exist in previous games. Match VIP was, without a doubt, Cayden Schultz who had 3 perfect goals. A special shout out is much-needed for our new players this season, all of whom had their best game so far.

8-19 - Comstock 1 - Schoolcraft 9

We started on our heels this game and took a long time to get focused. When we were able to posses the ball and make an attack we progressed up the field well, but often held on to the ball for too long. In the second half we focused more on passing and providing options to the ball carrier, which improved our ability in the midfield. However, we still relied too much on long balls and footwork instead of simple soccer.

8-16 - Comstock 6 - Parchment 14

We started slow in the first half but, after a few line up changes, we quickly came together to create several offensive opportunities. Trey Kohler was the star of this match with 5 goals and Tyler Baker had several assists and a goal. Our offensive line was smart, aggressive, and capitalized on every chance.

Defensively, we still have a lot of work to do. Our defense did much better in the second half by containing their attacking line, not stabbing and balls, and communicating with each other. Unfortunately they had 2 players who were incredibly talented and put shots in the low corners.

This first game of the season showed our teams, fans, and opponents that we are a totally different team team than last year. We demonstrated wisdom and teamwork on the field and the rest of the season looks incredibly promising.
