Jack Runchey
Teacher & Coach 1971-83
Calvin College basketball students are cheering “We’re #1!
Hope College students are cheering “Real men play football!"
Kalamazoo College is cheering “Harass them! Harass them! Make them relinquish the ball!”
And Jack Runchey came to Comstock.
Larry Pickett, then athletic director, said football is just blocking and tackling.
No, it’s coaching and horses.
What ever it is, it is not that simple.
And Jack Runchey came to Comstock.
After school he said, “It is practice time and this is the best time of the day!"
With wind sprints, he would say, “Put it in the bank gentlemen!"
And of his interior linemen, he said, “Your mother loves you and so do I!"
And Jack Runchey came to Comstock.
