Jennifer Layne
Class of 2002
Memories of Jen Layne’s athletic carrier. Where do I start? I guess it was soccer in the 2nd grade and basketball in the 5th grade. From that time on Joan and I and her mother, Paula, hardly missed a game all the way through college. Before college it seemed half the fans in the stands rooting for Jen and her teammates were family members. From early on I could tell she was going to be special with her athletic ability, leadership and being Jen Layne. It wasn’t long before everyone knew Jen Layne. Some of her accomplishments still stand out; leading Comstock to two back to back District Championships, hitting two 3’s late in the game to beat Gull Lake for the league title, in 4 years on the varsity she started every game Comstock played in Basketball and Soccer (158 consecutive games), always cheering on her teammates. She played 4 years of basketball in college and now at the advanced age of 34 still plays soccer and occasionally basketball. I could go on and on but time is short. Finally, another accomplishment, she has a great family in husband Cory Hinga and two great kids, Grace and Brody, our great grandchildren. - Paul Gray
