Walter Jennings Jr.

Walter Jennings Jr.

Class of 1948

I’ve known Walt for over 70 years. We played a lot of sandlot football and baseball in any vacant field or pasture we could find when we were kids. Later, Walt, my brother Joe, Chuck Fullmer, Jack Walker, and others rode our bikes down to Upjohn field to play American Legion Ball for legendary coach Mac Mc Kee. In high school, Walt made the varsity baseball team as a freshman. He went on to star in football, basketball, and baseball. After high school, Walt and I played and traveled with the Ramona Bears, a team made up of players from State High and Kalamazoo Central High School. You could tell at an early age that Walt would be a real good athlete. I think given the opportunity, Walt could have played baseball at the college level or even professionally. It has been great knowing Walt all of these years and I congratulate him on his induction into the Comstock High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Jack Nuyen – CHS Class of 1946

Having known Walt Jennings all through grade school and high school, I would describe him as a conscientious, responsible, and dependable person. He was also an outstanding athlete and a team player is reason enough to recognize him in the Hall of Fame.

Arnold La Mere - CHS Class of 1948

When I heard that Mr. Jennings got inducted into the Comstock High School Athletic Hall of Fame, I thought what a special honor that couldn’t have happened to a nicer person. I was fortunate to grow up down the road from Mr. and Mrs. Jennings. I became real good friends with their son Craig, and always enjoyed the greatest peanut butter and jelly sandwiches in the world that Mrs. Jennings made. Mr. Jennings was like a second dad to me, as I was always over at their house. Mr. Jennings was also my baseball coach from 8 to 14 years old. He taught us how to enjoy the game and play as a team…baseball was always fun. I didn’t realize it at the time, but Mr. Jennings taught me good sportsmanship, respect for people, and generally how to be a good person….and I can’t thank him enough for that. Rich Livingston
