The 5th Grade Girls Stampede Basketball Team went 3-0 this weekend as they took first place in their home tournament this past Saturday and Sunday.  Comstock started off the tourney with a 16-8 win over Eaton Rapids. Li'Zariah Lewis led the Colts with 10 while Nevaeh McIntyre, Gianna Nathaniel and Kyla Owens also scored.  Comstock then beat Climax-Scotts in back to back games to take home the championship. They won the first match-up in impressive fashion, 31-6. Li'Zariah Lewis once again led the way with 18 points. Paris McPherson and Nevaeh McIntyre added 6 and 4 for the Stampede. The Colts took their final game 26-9. Megan Kendall and Kyla Owens led the defense in their final game of the year.  The girls have a lot to be proud of this year. The ladies had an overall record of 10-6 this season after going winless last year. They are on their way to great things, going forward! Awesome job, girls! Go Comstock.

The 5th Grade Girls Stampede Basketball Team took first place in their tournament on February 28th in Tecumseh. The girls were victorious in two out of their three games playing with only 5 girls. Comstock won their first match-up against Grass Lake in overtime, 14-13. Each girl on the team made strong contributions, throughout. The Colts then impressively defeated Chelsea 16-10, playing with only four girls for much of the fourth quarter due to foul trouble. In the final game of the tournament, the ladies just ran out of gas against Blissfield, losing 19-10. The Colts played with a ton of heart and really showed that they have a strong core of players to build upon going forward! Go Comstock.

The 5th Grade Girls Stampede Basketball Team had a tough going this past weekend in Comstock. The girls went 0-3 on the day, but played extremely well at times against some very difficult competition.  The Colts dropped their first game of the day against Rockford, 18-8. The entire team played well throughout, but just couldn't put it all together in the end. Li'Zariah Lewis and Neveah McIntyre were the leading scorers for the home team.  Comstock was unable to regroup in the second game as they were handled easily by Gull Lake, 24-3.  In the final game of the day, the Colts showed a lot of grit in a 7-16 loss against Gobles. Li'Zariah Lewis, Kyla Owens and Neveah McIntyre all scored for Comstock. (The girls suffered a 5-27 loss to the same team earlier in the season and are now gaining some ground on some of the better, more experienced teams.)  Overall, despite the final results, the ladies gained some valuable experience against tough competition...which will only make them stronger and more hungry going forward! 1-31 - Homer Tournament
The 5th Grade Girls Stampede Basketball Team had a rough going in their first tournament of the year last Saturday in Homer. The girls played hard, but showed some rust coming off of their long winter break.
Comstock 13 - Concord 18
The Colts lost their first game in heart-breaking fashion against Concord, 13-18. They led the entire game but ran out of steam in the final minutes. Li'Zariah Lewis led Comstock with 8 points while Nevaeh McIntyre and Kyla Owens also chipped in baskets.
Comstock 20 - Addison 7
The girls came out strong in their second game of the tournament against Addison. Each girl on the team made strong contributions in the 20-7 victory. Megan Kendall, Kyla Owens, Nevaeh McIntyre, Paris McPherson, Gianna Nathaniel and Li'Zariah Lewis all scored in the win.
Comstock 14 - Bronson 15
In the final game, the Colts just didn't have enough to overcome Bronson in a 14-15, nail-biting loss. Again, Comstock held a small lead throughout most of the game, but couldn't come up with the victory in the end. Nevaeh McIntyre and Li'Zariah Lewis each had 6 points in the loss.

11-22 - Comstock 33 - Galesburg-Augusta 15
11-22 - Comstock 14 - Otsego 22

The 5th Grade Girls Stampede Basketball Team split their games last Saturday. The ladies started off the day with a big win against Galesburg, 33-15. Li'Zariah Lewis was unstoppable the entire game, scoring a season-high 17 points. Kyla Owens, Megan Kendall, Nevaeh McIntyre and Gianna Nathaniel also recorded buckets. The Colts, playing short-handed in the second game of the day, ran out of gas in the fourth quarter losing 14-22 to Otsego. Li'Zariah Lewis and Nevaeh McIntyre each scored 6 points in the defeat. Trista Esman and Paris McPherson continued to show great improvement, playing very valuable minutes throughout the game. 

11-15 - Comstock 21 - Vicksburg 13

The 5th Grade Girls Basketball Team improved their record to 3-2 with a 21-13 win over Vicksburg on Saturday. The Colts overcame a very sloppy first half and turned it on late, ending the game on a 14-2 run. Li'Zariah Lewis lead all scorers with 12 points. Megan Kendall, Nevaeh McIntyre, Paris McPherson and Kyla Owens also added points. The Colts, currently on a 3 game-winning-streak, look to keep it going this Saturday at home against Galesburg and Otsego. Go Comstock!

11-8 - Comstock 12 - Schoolcraft 11

The Comstock 5th Grade Girls Basketball Team won a thrilling game against Schoolcraft on Saturday, 12-11. Down by 1 with under 3 seconds to go in the game, Li'Zariah Lewis was fouled on the shot and then calmly drained 2 free-throws for the victory. The girls played tenacious defense, led by Kyla Owens, Megan Kendall and Gianna Nathaniel. Taz Owens was a beast on the boards, grabbing rebound after rebound against a much taller opponent. The Colts have now won two straight games and look to keep it going this Saturday in Vicksburg. Go Colts!

11-1 - Comstock 23 - Lakeview White 3

On Saturday, the 5th Grade Girls Stampede Basketball Team won their first game in impressive fashion versus Lakeview, 23-3. The girls continued to improve in all areas. The difference in the game was the Colts' tough defense, which absolutely smothered Lakeview. Taz Smith led all scorers with 9. Kyla Owens and Li'Zariah Lewis each scored 4, while Naveah McIntyre and Gianna Nathaniel both chipped-in baskets. The girls look to improve their record to 2-2 this weekend at home against Schoolcraft. Go Comstock!

10-25 - Comstock 15 - Three Rivers 24

The Comstock 5th Grade Girls Stampede Basketball Team lost a hard-fought game at Three Rivers this weekend, 24-15. The Colts mounted a huge comeback after trailing 14-0 at the end of the first quarter. Li'Zariah Lewis was high scorer with 8 points. Kyla Owens and Taz Smith also added buckets. The key to the team's resurgence was tough, suffocating man-to-man defense. The Colts look forward to the possibility of getting their first win this Saturday against Lakeview. Go Comstock!

10-18 - Comstock 5 - Gobles 27


The Comstock 5th Grade Girls Basketball Team dropped their first game last Saturday against Gobles, 27-5. After getting down big, early; the girls fought back hard in the second half. Li'Zariah Lewis, Taz Smith and Nevaeh McIntyre all scored for the Colts. They will try to bounce back this Saturday against Three Rivers. Go Colts!
