10-16 - Comstock 0 – Fennville 1 – OT PK Shootout
This was a particularly difficult loss to swallow but I couldn’t be more proud of the boys and what they accomplished this year. The game was back and forth the entire way with both teams missing a couple of good chances. The PK shootout didn’t go our way but the boys fought hard until the end and the seniors finished off their career with another great season. I love all you guys!!!
10-11 – Comstock 6 – Coloma 0
Logan Hicks finished the year with 6 shutouts which is outstanding as a freshman. David Thomas had 2 goals and an assist. Seth Ansel had 2 goals. Evan Veenhuis had 1 goal and 2 assists. Zach Taube scored his first career goal with 7 seconds to go in the game. Marcus Cannon, Kyle Moore and Branden Willis each had 1 assist. The Colts controlled most of this game and did a great job of shutting the other team down. Dalton Wilkins showed his toughness after he suffered a broken nose in this contest. The Colts gear up for a district quarter match against Fennville.
10-9 - Comstock 5 – Olivet 1
Evan Veenhuis got us going right away in this game and finished with 5 goals in the contest. David Thomas had 2 assists and Eric Miller and Fernando Plascencia had 1 assist each. The Colts came out strong playing the best 1st half all season. The boys were quick, strong and aggressive. It was great to see the team play well.
10-5 – JV Scrimmage - Comstock 2 – Lakeside 1
This scrimmage against Lakeside was especially brutal. The boys certainly toughed out a good win but it came with a cost of a few injuries based on the type of play against us. Alex Kish and Logan Hicks both scored for the Colts and Kyle Mortimer had an assist.
10-4 - Comstock 3 – Parchment 2
Tonight, the boys were able to crown themselves as conference champs alone going 5-0 in conference play. It was a remarkable comeback by the Colts. A loss would mean sharing the title and the Colts wouldn’t allow their cross town rival to share in this feat. Down 2-0 with only 17 minutes to go in the game, the ball was mishandled by the Parchment keeper and Eric Miller punched it home. Then with 6 minutes to go in the game, Victor Plascencia scored his 1st HS goal off an assist from Seth Ansel on a hard shot that deflected off of a defenseman’s chest and rolled into the goal to tie the game. And with 3 minutes left, Evan Veenhuis took a direct kick and bent around the wall to score the game winning goal. It was a great all-around game to come from behind. We shifted through 3 different formations and Kyle Moore did a wonderful job of adjusting. Jesse Mortimer, Branden Willis and Marcus Cannon also did a tremendous job of being the only defenseman in the 2nd half.
10-2 - Comstock 5 – Maple Valley 1
We traveled to Maple Valley tonight and witnessed Eric Miller record his 1st hat trick of his career with 2 of them coming off headers. Evan Veenhuis and Kyle Moore scored the other 2 goals while Fernando Plascencia had 2 assists and Evan Veenhuis and Kyle Mortimer each had 1. Maple Valley was not much of a match for the boys and they did a great job of controlling most of the event.
9-28 – Comstock 3 – Cassopolis 2
The boys took a 3-0 lead in at halftime and then held on against a good Cassopolis team with a speedy forward. Evan Veenhuis scored all 3 goals while Seth Ansel and Victor Plascencia each had assists. The defense had their hands full with their forward and did a great job of limiting his opportunities.
9-27 - Comstock 5 – Berrien Springs 1
The boys had a good test against a good Berrien Springs team and came out victorious behind 5 goals by Evan Veenhuis. Marcus Cannon had the lone assist. Logan Hicks had another great night in goal and I’m seeing a lot of good things out of the team.
9-25 - JV Scrimmage - Comstock 0 – Mattawan 2
The younger Colts came out and played a great game tonight. Sam Rabick, Dalton Wilkins and Kyle Mortimer did a great job of anchoring the defense while Dino Sivley, Teague Roellchen, Alex Kish and Nico Hoffmann did a great job in the midfield. It was a good experience for the boys.
9-21 - Comstock 2 – Schoolcraft 1
The boys traveled to Schoolcraft tonight on a very hot and humid evening. The Colts went down 1-0 in the 1st half before mounting their comeback scoring 2 unanswered goals by Evan Veenhuis. The 1st was a nice PK and the 2nd was a great chip shot just over the keeper’s head with Eric Miller assisting. The Colts might have been outplayed a bit on the outside but the defense held strong and Logan Hicks did a great job in goal saving some good opportunities.
9-20 - Comstock 4 – Bridgman 2
It was just 2 seasons ago that Bridgman mercied our team but those memories are long gone by beating Bridgman for the 2nd year in a row. Evan Veenhuis scored 3 goals while Seth Ansel had 1 goal and 2 assists. Eric Miller and Kyle Moore also had assists. Eric Miller played a variety of positions throughout the game but none more important than marking Bridgman’s best forward with the help of Jesse Mortimer shadowing as well. It was a great win for the boys.
9-18 – JV Scrimmage - Comstock 2 – Lawrence 1
The young Colts came away with a win tonight with Logan Hicks and Dino Sivley scoring. Logan Hicks also had an assist on the evening. It was a great group effort by the young Colts to come away with the win.
9-14 - Comstock 1 – Delton-Kellogg 3
The Colts suffered their 2nd loss of the season tonight by being outplayed by a more aggressive Delton-Kellogg team. We were just slow to the ball and in most every other facet of the game. The lone goal was by Evan Veenhuis who was very limited on opportunity. The game did stay tight at 0-0 until about the 20 minute mark when DK scored their 1st goal before Evan tied it back up then to see DK score 2 more. It is certainly a wake-up call for the boys if they are going to contend for another District Championship.
9-13 - Comstock 9 – Brandywine 2
The Colts had a great evening scoring 9 goals. Evan Veenhuis tied the school record with 6 goals and also had 2 assists. Seth Ansel had 1 goal and 1 assist and Dino Sivley and David Thomas also had goals. Kyle Moore had 2 assists and Eric Miller, Jeff Koss and Logan Hicks also had 1 assist. 9-11 – Comstock 2 – Vicksburg 0
Comstock had a nice test tonight and came out victorious 2-0. Evan Veenhuis and David Thomas scored the goals and Seth Ansel and Fernando Plascencia had the assists. David’s goal was a beautiful header off a great corner kick cross from Fernando. Comstock was able to control a lot of the game and keep their speedy defenseman in check. Nice job boys.
9-9 – Bloomingdale Tourney Runner Up – Comstock 2 – Bloomingdale 3 PK Shootout
The boys had a tough game on their hands playing against the home team on their turf. Bloomindale did a wonderful job passing the ball around and their keeper was amazing by stopping some great shots. The game ended in a 2-2 tie on 2 goals from Evan Veenhuis and an assist from Seth Ansel which forced a PK shootout. The Colts had opportunities to win the shootout after the 1st and 2nd groups went through before losing in sudden death. It was certainly an exciting game and a good experience in having a shootout.
9-9 – Bloomingdale Tourney - Comstock 3 – Michigan Lutheran 0
The boys came out and took care of business against a scrappy Michigan Lutheran team. Seth Ansel got us going with 2 goals and Eric Miller also scored 1. Fernando Plascencia and Kyle Moore each had 1 assist.

9-7 – JV Scrimmage - Comstock 0 – Kalamazoo Cougars Varsity 8
This scrimmage was set up to be a scrimmage by JV level players and the Cougars brought their varsity team and didn’t hold back. Our boys played hard until the finish. I’m very proud of them.
9-6 - Comstock 9 – Buchanan 1
Evan Veenhuis got us going tonight scoring 5 goals and having 1 assist. Fernando Plascencia, David Thomas, Kyle Moore and Dino Sivley also scored a goal for the Colts while Seth Ansel and Eric Miller had 2 assists each and Fernando Plascencia had an assist. Buchanan was not much of a match for the Colts as the boys came ready to play.
8-30 - Comstock 3 – Pennfield 2
The Colts jumped out to a 3-0 1st half lead and then held on at the end. The defense did an amazing job throughout the game and Logan Hicks was remarkable in goal. Evan Veenhuis had 2 goals and Seth Ansel had 1. Evan Veenhuis and Zach Taube each had an assist. Pennfield has been a team that we’ve had trouble beating and this was the 1st time in quite a few years that we were able to get them. It was a great all around team effort but great job to the defense of Kyle Moore, Jesse Mortimer, Branden Willis and Marcus Cannon.
8-28 - Comstock 3 – Lawton 0
The Colts had another good showing against Lawton winning 3-0 behind 2 goals by Evan Veenhuis and 1 goal and 1 assist by Seth Ansel. Kyle Moore also had an assist.

The boys played in their 1st ever regular season tournament and came out victorious. It was a great effort by the boys to establish themselves on the defensive and offensive end of the field early in the season.
