Larry Pickett

Larry Pickett

Teacher, Coach & Athletic Director - 1950-82

Mr. Pickett is ‘Mr. Comstock’. Starting in 1950 and until 1982, Larry put his energies, his talent and his teams on display. He breathed, slept, and lived Comstock for 32 years. As a coach, his record was one of the best in the area and earned statewide recognition. His baseball teams in the decade of the 60’s were champs 5 times. Although I think of him in this arena most of the time, Mr. Pickett was the pioneer in women’s sports in the 1970’s, jumpstarting a program for female athletes that ranked with anyone during his tenure. He coached Varsity Football, Varsity Baseball, Varsity Basketball and Varsity Wrestling during his time. It is easily said that he impacted a great many youth at Comstock High and in his 20 years as Recreation Director. Mr. Pickett, or Coach Pickett, has always been held in high regard by his former athletes and students. What he did for the school, community and his athletes could probably not be duplicated today. I consider him to be a man of the ages.
