Special thanks to Don Underwood and his terrific staff at the Meadows, for all their help and assistance in making this event at the D4 state championship venue a reality! Friday, Sept. 5th Teacher, Family & Friends Scramble @ Eastern Hills @ 3:30
The Annual Teacher, Family and Friends Scramble once again proved to be a popular and fun event with 8 teams and 32 players! This year's winning team was Team Stewart (Ariana, dad Lee, mom Gerielle and Colleen Grueter, who made a birdie putt on #9) with a score of 31 or -4, taking second was Team Megan Stewart who tied at 31 but lost in the card readback as they had a par on the 4th toughest handicap hole. Special thanks to all the teachers who played....Mr VanDis, Mr. Mutch, Coach House, Mrs. Dailey, Mrs. Grueter, Mrs. Ramsey and lots of friends and family including CHS legend Pat Ashby and my mom, Ginny Geary! It is always great to get together and have fun out on the golf course and eat a great meal...thanks to all the parents for making all the food...especially Mindy Sims for organizing the after event potluck taco meal! Also thanks to Denise Phillipson for getting some of the prizes. Probably the biggest story of the night was us avoiding the HUGE STORM that hit just as we were finishing. I will never forget riding out in the golf cart yelling for Team Petrick and Veenhuis to GET OFF THE COURSE NOW, AS THE TORNADO WAS COMING! WOW... thank goodness we were all safe! We were a little wet and shook up but safe!

Wonderful to see Lauren Bonds figure in the scoring with a terrific 50, her low 9 of the season on a really tough course. Proud of our efforts, continual focus and great attitudes on the course! On a spectacular night for golf, the CC girl's traveled to a new course Marshall CC to take on 2 very tough opponents, Marshall and Gull Lake. The girls had their hands full as both of these teams are having great seasons and we were playing on an unfamiliar course that both of our opponents had played before! 11. Wednesday, Oct 1 Hosting Wolverine Conference Teams @ Eastern Hills front 9
Playing its final home event of the season, the Comstock girls golf team shot a 187 to win its own jamboree Wednesday at Eastern Hills. Allegan finished second with a 215, followed by third-place Otsego with a 244. Megan Sims led the way for Comstock with a 42, but junior Abby Schreiner and sophomore Lauren Bond came up big for the Colts, Schreiner shot a 46 and Bond carded a 52, as both finished in Comstock's top four golfers. It was nice to have those girls step up. For Sims and fellow senior Ariana Stewart, who shot a 47, Wednesday was extra special, considering it marked the final home match of their careers. It was an emotional night for us! It's been a blessing and a joy to coach both of them for four years. The season isn't over as the Colts will compete in the Division 4 Regional on Oct. 10 at Silver Lake Country Club.

12. Friday, Oct. 10th, Regionals hosted by GR Northpointe Christian @ Silver Lake CC
[par 72 5262 rating 71.2/ slope 120]
The Varsity girls golf team traveled an hour and 20 minutes north to Silver Lake CC in Rockford to compete in the D4 #17 Regional and placed 4th out of 12 teams shooting a 393. Megan Sims placed 5th overall with an 86 featuring a birdie on par 5 #4 and qualified for State Finals once again! Also qualifying was Ariana Stewart who started out slow but came back strong on the inward 9 to fire a 42 and 92 overall! Great to have both seniors going to state together. It was our lowest regional score by 1 stroke over last year and would have been good enough in every other D4 Regional in the state to qualify our team, BUT unfortunately, we are in the toughest region in the STATE and as they say...IT IS WHAT IT IS! Great season for the team, and so happy to once again have COLT PLAYERS AT THE STATE D4 FINALS AT GVSU!
GO COLTS!

13. Friday, Oct. 17 & Sat., Oct 18th MHSAA D4 STATE FINALS @ GVSU- the MEADOWS GC
On day 1 of the D4 Girl's Golf State Finals, Comstock's Ariana Stewart and Megan Sims not only battled the top golfers in the state, but a tough GVSU course and mother nature!
Several of the tees where pushed back to lengthen the course and on a cold, windy day that made scoring a real challenge! Ariana opened up on Hole #2 playing with Grace Zimmerman from Almont & Hayley Cooper from East Jackson. Ari started out strong with a par and ended up shooting a 44 on the front 9 but ran into some trouble on the back finishing with a 49 coming in for a day 1 total of 93, where she had 5 pars on the day. This put her into 23rd position after day 1.
Megan started her first round on hole #4 opening up with a par. Her playing partners where Alayna Kersten from Lutheran Northwest and Bria Colosky from Farwell. Megan had a tough first day, grinding out at 48 on the front and a 47 on the back, finishing with only 4 pars on the day! Dissappointing with her 29 position in the field, but ...Tomorrow is another day!
Day 2 saw improved weather conditions and tees, as the sun shined and the distance was shortened on several holes! So scoring possibilities were out there... It was still cold but not as windy! Ariana began the day on Hole #4 and played with Abbie Alfree from WM Christian and Bria Colosky from Farwell. Ari opened nicely with a 43 and struggled on the back again with a 49. Finishing with 5 pars and in the top 25 in the state with a respectable 23rd position! Same spot as last year, ironically!
Megan made the most of her 2nd day... and after a disappointing first day came out with a new and better attitude! She played with Haley Cooper from East Jackson and Fallon Gates from Manistee. Megan started on hole #4 and opened up with a double only to bounce back and birdie hole #8 and went out with a 42! She followed up that great play by coming in with a 43 to card a fine 85! Terrific 10 shot improvement from day 1! WOW... that moved her all the way up to 20th in the state!
It was a great and memorable weekend! One I am sure Ari and Megan their families and our team will never forget! Being at the State Finals and competing is a true honor and takes a ton of work to get there and to be amongst the best in the state is a direct correlation to how much time these young ladies have put in to be at that level! They should be so proud of what they accomplished this year! It has been an honor to coach these 2 outstanding players 4 for the last 4 years. I am so proud of what they have done!
It was another outstanding women's golf season here at Comstock. I am so thankful for such wonderful student-athletes and parents! Thanks to all who contributed to make this season such a memorable and rewarding experience! Special thanks to Gerielle and Lee Stewart and all their support over the past 4 years. Once again to Papa for helping out with transportation and to our great Athletic Director Justin Ansel for all his help along with his secretary Shirley Doorlag!
We have a lot of talent coming back, but it will once again take a lot of work in the off season and this summer to prepare for next year! Thanks again everyone and GO COLTS! FIRE UP FOR 2015
